First look at Kmart K Hub store replacing Target | video

One Kmart fan has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s new K Hub stores, revealing the surprising staple that is missing from the boutique-style department stores.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Target would be undergoing a massive overhaul which would see more than 50 of its Target Country branches converted into new K Hub stores.

On Tuesday, Eliza Reid, who runs popular bargain shopping account @bargain_homewares, shared a video of the K Hub which had this week opened in Bairnsdale, Victoria, and is one of only six of the new Kmart stores currently open.

In a video and Instagram posts, Eliza shared how the smaller stores had lots of clothing and toys – as well stock levels she hadn’t seen at other Kmarts in months.

“The thing about coming to a new Kmart store is that everything is really well stocked. I haven’t really seen stores with stock like this during COVID, so it’s amazing,” she said.

While one of the positives of the K Hub store was that it had “a lot of women’s clothing”, but it was missing the beauty and makeup sections that larger Kmarts had, Eliza said.

The store stocked “more essentials” when it came to beauty and skincare, with stuff like basic toiletries and toiletry bags.

“The things that they didn’t have was makeup, so they still had a little bit of beauty,” Eliza said. “There wasn’t a lot of women’s shoes and there wasn’t a lot of furniture.”

But overall Eliza said she was impressed with the smaller store, which also featured a “mini Christmas section” at the front of the store.

“So all in all they don’t have everything, but they have the basics,” she said.

“For the small country towns that this is going in, I guess it’s better than not having a Target at all.”

Kmart announced which Country Target stores were being converted into K Hubs back in August, with customers still able to order products from Target online for click and collect at the Kmart-branded stores.

Staff who worked at the Country Targets were also being kept on to work in the K Hubs when they reopened.
